Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program NEW!

The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program provides rising eighth through rising tenth-grade campers the opportunity to continue their journey at SummerPrep while developing professional life skills to prepare them for workplace and camp counseling positions.

CITs will build their resumes and gain skills that will serve them as future camp counselors and beyond.* CITs gain leadership experience, a sense of belonging within the SummerPrep community, and the opportunity to fail, reflect, and grow.

Topics include how to:

  • Set and achieve goals
  • Give and receive feedback
  • Seek employment (write a resume, professional email communication, introduce oneself, hiring process)
  • Resolve conflict
  • Speak to a large group
  • Plan and debrief multi-part activities

CITs will have time to reflect on their interactions and experiences and debrief after planning and implementing SummerPrep activities. They will also experience regular evaluations so they know how they are doing. CITs complete the program having developed new job skills, confidence in their leadership ability, and general life readiness.

Sample Schedule

Mornings: Teamwork and leadership skills: How to build a growth mindset, positive camper management, goal setting, effective communication methods, and job skills, including applying and interviewing for a job.
