Department: DevelopmentPosition Overview
The Associate Director of Development (Annual Fund and Alumni Affairs) is a key member of the Sandia Prep Development team responsible for leading Annual Fund strategy and execution and advancing Alumni Affairs. This role manages a defined portfolio of Annual Fund and alumni constituents, building meaningful relationships that increase engagement, participation, and philanthropic support for Sandia Prep.
This is an in-person position that requires a collaborative, hands on approach to fundraising, communications, and community building. The schedule includes evenings and weekends as needed for alumni events and other school engagement opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Annual Fund Leadership and Constituent Management
- Lead the strategy and execution of Sandia Prep’s Annual Fund to achieve fundraising goals and grow participation
- Manage a defined portfolio of Annual Fund constituents, including outreach, relationship building, renewals, and upgrade strategies
- Develop and execute annual giving communications and stewardship efforts, including email campaigns, appeals, and donor engagement touchpoints
- Identify and cultivate Annual Fund donors with potential for increased giving and deeper involvement
- Track, analyze, and report on Annual Fund progress, participation, and engagement trends
Alumni Affairs and Engagement
- Oversee alumni engagement efforts, including events, communications, volunteer opportunities, and reunion activity
- Manage a defined portfolio of alumni constituents, building relationships that encourage connection, participation, and giving
- Develop and implement strategies to strengthen alumni pipelines, increase alumni giving, and expand volunteerism
- Partner with staff and key alumni leaders to grow a welcoming and active alumni community
Events and Community Engagement
- Support the planning and execution of development events that advance Annual Fund and alumni engagement goals, including donor receptions, alumni gatherings, stewardship events, and the school’s annual gala
- Serve as a key partner in event logistics and guest experience, helping ensure strong execution while collaborating with staff, volunteers, and vendors
- Contribute to event planning calendars, timelines, and follow up, including tracking participation and outcomes
- Evaluate event effectiveness and recommend improvements based on participation, engagement, and fundraising goals
- Help strengthen the department’s overall event capacity by supporting shared event responsibilities so no single position carries the full event workload
Donor Stewardship and Relationship Building
- Ensure donors are thanked promptly and meaningfully, with consistent stewardship and follow up
- Work closely with the Director of Development and Alumni Affairs on donor strategy, outreach, and relationship management
- Support additional fundraising initiatives as needed, including special appeals and long term development priorities
Communications, Data, and Reporting
- Collaborate with the Communications team to develop Annual Fund and alumni messaging for newsletters, social media, and school publications
- Maintain accurate records and timely updates in the school’s database
- Use data to identify trends, improve strategies, and provide regular progress updates to leadership and the Board
Collaboration and Other Duties
- Work closely with faculty, staff, volunteers, and school leadership to align fundraising and alumni efforts with school goals
- Contribute to a team oriented environment and provide support across department priorities as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements: Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred with 3 to 5 years of experience in development, fundraising, alumni relations, or related work
- Demonstrated success managing annual giving and strengthening constituent engagement
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse audiences
- Experience using databases and reporting tools, with comfort analyzing fundraising metrics
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once with strong organization and attention to detail
- Proactive, collaborative approach with strong follow through
- Commitment to Sandia Prep’s mission and the role of philanthropy and alumni engagement in supporting students
- Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs.

- Support enrollment strategy through audience-focused marketing, campaign development, and data-informed communications
Brand and Storytelling
- Ensure consistent voice, tone, and visual identity across all communications
- Lead content strategy highlighting student experience, faculty excellence, and program impact
- Oversee website, social media, and digital presence strategy
Advancement, Auxiliary Programs, and Community Communications
- Partner with Development to support fundraising campaigns and donor storytelling
- Partner with Auxiliary Programs to support advertising and marketing efforts
- Support institutional communications to families, alumni, and community partners
Team Leadership and Partnerships
- Build and develop an efficient, collaborative marketing department
- Manage agency, vendor, and community partner relationships
- Oversee marketing budget and resource allocation, in partnership with other departments
Data-Informed Decision Making
- Establish and monitor marketing performance metrics
- Use data and insights to refine strategy and resource allocation
- Partner with enrollment and advancement on shared dashboards and reporting
Requirements: Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in marketing communications, or related field preferred
- 5-7 years of progressive marketing and communications leadership experience
- Demonstrated success leading multi-channel marketing strategy
- Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Experience managing agencies and external partners
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed
