May 11th, 2026

Sandia Prep alum Stanley Hubbard II ’23 recently became the first men’s hockey player developed entirely in New Mexico to commit to an NCAA school at any level.

Hubbard -- a 6-foot-5, 225-pound forward -- announced his commitment to play Division 1 hockey next season at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Penn., near Pittsburgh.. Hubbard is an alternate captain for the New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American Hockey League.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, Hubbard is also the first New Mexican to compete at the D1 level in hockey.

Hubbard credits Prep with helping him to achieve this milestone. "I am very excited to be playing Division I hockey at Robert Morris University next year,” he said. “I want to thank Mr. Jeffries and the teachers at Sandia Prep for helping me to get there. They were amazingly supportive and went above and beyond to help me stay on track. They wanted to see me succeed as much as anyone."

His brother Ryan Hubbard ’26 has committed to play adaptive hockey at Penn State.
