Fastest Mid-School Runner in the State is a Sundevil!

October 30th, 2026

Sandia Prep is proud to share that Dwight (’31) not only won the 2026 state cross country title in October at the NMAA Middle School Cross Country meet with a time of 10:28, besting all 192 runners in his race, but he also outran all 184 runners in the large school race. Dwight is the overall New Mexico state champion cross country runner! He is continuing the family passion, as his brothers Dillon ('09) and Levi ('18) also ran track and/or cross country for the Sundevils. (According to the Denver Gazette, Dillon was the top Native American runner in the U.S. during his final two years of high school and ran his way to Division 1 national champion at the University of Colorado-Boulder).

Other middle-school cross country runners delivered impressive results at the state meet as well: Adrian (’31), passed six runners in the last 400, including beating one from Santa Fe Prep in the last stride, and recorded a time of 13:16. The rest of Prep’s boys all had personal bests on the course!

And on the girls team, Johnny (’32) led the way with a ninth-place finish, Alyssia (’32) finished 29th, and Mia (’33) finished 34th out of 162 girls.

With our middle-school runners delivering such high-level performances at state, the future for Prep’s runners is on the fast track. We are so proud of our students and the dedication they bring to everything they do. Let's go Sundevils!
