
The Great Outdoors: Day and Week-Long Trips
Step outside and discover your strength! Specialty week-long day and overnight camps combine adventure, teamwork and skill-building for campers who want to explore the outdoors. Through hiking, climbing, fly fishing, rafting and more, campers learn leadership, resilience and environmental awareness. Each adventure builds confidence, teamwork, connection to nature, and friendship. We’ll meet at the Sandia Prep Saunders Library each morning at 8:00 a.m. and will return by 3:15 p.m.
Climbing
Do you like to climb things? If so, we have you covered! Join the Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) as we explore some of the best climbing in the area. Beginners to advanced climbers are welcome. Cost of the week-long day camp includes daily instruction and transportation provided by Wilderness First Responder-certified OLP faculty. Campers may provide their own helmet, harness, and shoes, or we have you covered. Participants will need to bring their lunch, snacks, and two liter-sized water bottles each day.

Fly Fishing
New Mexico is one of the best places to begin and hone your skills as a fly fisher. It doesn’t matter if you’re brand new to the sport or a seasoned expert, our Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) faculty will get you on some of the most beautiful water in the state! Students will also gain a deeper understanding of aquatic ecology and environmental responsibility. Campers must bring 2 liters of water, lunch, and snacks for each day. Base cost of the week-long day camp includes Wilderness First Responder certified OLP faculty guided instruction, transportation, and basic supplies/flies. Students may provide their own fly rod outfit; we recommend a 5wt. You may also rent or purchase an Orvis Encounter 9ft 5 wt.

Hiking
If you love being outdoors, this is the place for you. This week-long day camp will include getting in a good hike every day! In addition, we’ll explore the beautiful environment that we call home with discussions on geography, geology, and ecology, just to name a few! We’ll be sure to discuss Leave No Trace (LNT) principles with our resident LNT Master Educator and Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) faculty, Mr. Gwinn! Students will need to bring 2 liters of water, lunch, and snacks for each day. Cost of the week-long day camp includes Wilderness First Responder-certified OLP faculty guides, transportation, and any entry fees. Students will need to have proper hiking boots or shoes and layers for this program.

Mountain Biking and Maintenance
Are you into mountain biking? Want to service your own bike? If so, this is the camp for you! We’ll spend time learning bike maintenance, all the way up through a tune-up on your bike. In addition to learning the ins and outs of your bike, we’ll ride every day, and spend the second half of the week all day on trails in the Albuquerque area. We’ll take beginners to advanced riders. Campers must have their own properly fitting helmets and are encouraged to bring their own hardtail or full-suspension mountain bike. Need a bike? We offer Salsa Timberjack, hardtail rentals. Campers must bring 2 liters of water, lunch, and snacks for each day. Cost of the week-long day camp includes Wilderness First Responder certified Outdoor Leadership Program (OLP) faculty guides, transportation, and entry fees. Campers must have proper hiking boots or shoes and layers for this program.
