Description
The Assistant Athletic Director is responsible for the leadership, administration, and daily
operation of Sandia Preparatory School's Middle School Athletics Program. Reporting to the
Athletic Director, this position oversees scheduling, league relations, coach supervision, event
management, communications, equipment, and program operations to ensure a safe,
organized, and positive experience for student-athletes, coaches, and families.
Essential Responsibilities
Program Administration
- Manage the daily operations of the Middle School Athletics Program.
- Coordinate student registrations, communications, and seasonal information for families and coaches.
- Oversee the Sandia Prep Event calendar and Ora Attendance
- Serve as the primary contact for parents, addressing questions and concerns while communicating program expectations.
- Ensure athletic programs align with the mission and values of Sandia Preparatory School.
Scheduling & League Relations
- Represent Sandia Prep with the New Mexico Independent Schools Athletic League (NMISAL), attending league meetings and maintaining strong relationships with member schools.
- Coordinate athletic schedules, manage facility conflicts, and maintain accurate schedules in school information systems.
- Develop schedules for Middle School Softball and Track in collaboration with varsity coaches and the Athletic Director.
- Coordinate transportation and facility logistics as needed.
Coach Leadership
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and support middle school coaches.
- Communicate league rules, school policies, safety expectations, and best coaching practices.
- Observe practices and competitions, provide coaching support, and promote a positive, student-centered athletic culture.
Athletic Operations & Event Management, Middle School and Upper School
- Oversee uniforms, equipment, facilities, and game-day operations.
- Coordinate officials, scorekeepers, and event personnel for competitions.
- Plan and manage middle school athletic events, including Track meets and Softball competitions, ensuring contests are conducted safely and professionally.
Financial Administration
Serve as Treasurer for the NMISAL by:
- Collecting annual membership fees and processing league payments.
- Maintaining accurate financial records and preparing annual financial reports; maintaining the Operational Budget for the Athletic Department.
- Managing league meeting expenses and ensuring responsible stewardship of league funds.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with the Athletic Director, coaches, faculty, and school leadership to strengthen the athletic program.
- Foster a culture of integrity, inclusion, sportsmanship, and student development.
- Perform additional duties that support the Athletic Department and school community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in athletic administration, coaching, education, or a related field preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace and student information/scheduling systems.
- Ability to have a flexible schedule as needed to cover athletic events; work evenings and weekends.
