Description
Sandia Preparatory School is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and student-centered Director of College Counseling to lead our dynamic college counseling program. This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative educator and counselor who is passionate about helping students discover their unique paths beyond high school while fostering meaningful relationships with families, faculty, and college admission professionals.
Our College Counseling team works closely together to provide highly personalized guidance throughout every stage of the college search and application process. We believe college counseling is about much more than admissions; it is about empowering students to make thoughtful, informed decisions about their futures.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide a caseload of approximately 35-40 students per grade through every aspect of the college search, application, financial aid, scholarship, and decision-making process.
- Build strong relationships with students and families, providing individualized guidance and support throughout the admissions journey.
- Help students navigate the emotional, social, and practical aspects of planning for life after high school.
- Write thoughtful, personalized counselor recommendations and partner with faculty on advising and recommendation letters.
- Develop and lead engaging programming, including college application workshops, financial aid and scholarship events, SCOIR training, alumni and parent panels, transition-to-college programming, and other post-secondary planning initiatives.
- Stay current on college admissions trends through professional development, conferences, campus visits, and relationships with college admission representatives.
- Collaborate with the College Counseling team to manage SCOIR, standardized testing, transcripts, teacher recommendations, and college representative visits.
- Track alumni outcomes and use data to strengthen and enhance the college counseling program.
- Participate actively in the life of the school by serving as an advisor, attending school events, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to the vibrant Sandia Prep community.
