Description
Sandia Preparatory School is seeking a candidate for an opening in middle school History. The ideal candidate will have a degree in History or other Social Studies field, at least 3 years of teaching experience in middle school, as well as demonstrated skills in project-based learning and writing instruction. Middle school history courses include a survey of early history in the Americas, including ancient and indigenous communities, continuing on to European contact, Colonization, and Independence movements. Middle school courses conclude with an analysis and grounding in the U.S. government and framing documents, and a survey of the years from the Civil War to the present. These courses follow a chronology of major events while also zooming in on the events taking place in New Mexico, the people involved in daily life or critical decisions, and with the goal of locating our current experiences in Albuquerque, today.
At Sandia Prep, you will find the History Department to be collaborative and courses that are interactive, promote student engagement, and academic growth. You’ll notice that our school focuses on interdisciplinary teaching and learning as well as a commitment to equity and inclusion. Further, we are looking for a teacher who is willing to expand their own professional study and growth through coursework, workshops, and/or conferences that help develop your pedagogy. Finally, beyond classroom instruction, you will sponsor two activities or clubs of your choice as well as participate in events outside the school day. Ultimately, you will find Prep to be a dynamic community of professionals who welcome the challenges of teaching and learning in a supportive environment.
