June 2nd, 2023
Even though their season ended weeks ago, the Sandia Prep Varsity Boys Baseball team continues to knock it out of the park. The New Mexico Baseball Coaches Association has named Lucas Lemons ’23 the 3A Player of the Year and Head Coach Scott Brandt the 3A Coach of the Year.
In addition, several Prep players were named to the All-State teams: Chris Gist ’25, pitcher 1st Team; Lucas Lemons ’23, infield, 1st Team; Logan Lemons ’27, infield, 1st Team; Sam Treme ’23, outfield, 1st Team; Landon Hardcastle ’26, outfield, 2nd Team; and Christopher Andrick ’23, designated hitter, 1st Team.
Coaches in the 3A division vote on the All-State selections.
Prep’s baseball team recently captured its eighth State Championship.
“I’m extremely happy and proud for our All-State athletes,” Brandt said. “They are hard- working, selfless, high-character people who put our team goals above their own. They truly deserve all their accolades.”
Brandt mentioned that he’s especially pleased for Lemons. “A player like Lucas only comes around once in a while,” he explained. “He has a desire to improve every day in all that he does. He thrives on competition, is a tremendous teammate, a selfless leader, and an amazing person.”
