Teacher Appreciation Week is almost here! We’re getting ready to celebrate our amazing Sandia Prep faculty for the incredible impact they make every day. Thank you for inspiring our students.
The Advanced English Seminar took a field trip to the University of New Mexico Art Museum 🎨 for an ekphrastic poetry unit. Ekphrastic poetry, from the Greek word for “description,” is a form of poetry inspired by visual art. Students explored the artwork and created their own poems in response.
Last week, Sandia Preparatory School partnered with Carrie Tingley Hospital and the University of New Mexico's Physical Education Teacher Education program to host an Adaptive Sports event promoting inclusivity and raising awareness for children with disabilities. 🤝
Around 200 Sandia Prep students participated in five activity rotations: sitting volleyball, goalball, boccia ball, a blindfolded guided walk/run, and adaptive bowling. It was a great way for students to learn and give back to their community.

A long-awaited project came to fruition on Earth Day when some Sandia Prep engineering students attended the reopening of a BioPark exhibit they helped to design.
Current and former students in teacher Anna Wilkerson’s eighth-grade Experiential Environmental Engineering for Social Impact collaborated with the City of Albuquerque to design the Nature Engagement Area at the BioPark’s Heritage Farm.

Sandia Prep's jazz bands delivered an exciting mix of theme songs, while the choir and guitar ensembles entertained and impressed the audience. On both nights, seniors in the music program—Owen '25, Roland '25, and Riley '25—were recognized for their dedication to music.

Congratulations to Sandia Prep’s Dance Team for winning the Class A-4A State Championship!
The national student business organization, DECA, hosted its New Mexico state-wide competition at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Miles ’26 took First Place in the "Principles of Finance" category! His victory capped off an amazing debut year for our school’s student-founded & student-led DECA chapter. Seventeen Sandia Prep students qualified for the state competition, with six advancing as DECA State Finalists! Way to go, Sundevils!
After noticing our Athletic Director tirelessly hauling equipment between gymnasiums on foot, The Duran Family generously donated a golf cart to the Athletic Department. Athletic Director Terry Darnell and Sandia Prep are incredibly grateful for the generosity and support of our community!
