Open the doors to our classrooms and you will find lively discussion and debate about books and ideas, students working together to solve problems and interpret lab data, presentations on research projects, building with 3D printers or dismantling machines in the SPACE, painting, sculpting, singing, and acting. We know our students learn best when they are engaged so our teaching is geared toward active learning, critical thinking, and collaboration. Our courses are challenging and our expectations high, and we are passionate about seeing all of our students succeed.
Along with a full academic life, students are able to explore their potential through vast offerings of extracurriculars, including:
Activities & Clubs - Explore your interests and talents - and discover new ones
Outdoor Leadership Program - Experience adventure with OLP
Travel Program - Travel the globe with Sandia Prep
Helping Hands Community Service Group - Join 90% of our student body who participate in student-led service
Student Relations Group - Making kindness cool and promoting a caring campus
Each Sandia Prep faculty member serves as an advisor to a group of ten students (of the same grade) each year. As an "advocate," the advisor is available to talk with each of these students about any and all concerns, academic or otherwise. In addition, the advisor serves as the primary liaison between the school and parents, meeting with parents each semester to track the student's progress and development.
We are fortunate to have individuals on campus dedicated solely to the emotional, social, and physical well-being of our students. Sandia Prep has a full-time nurse with an extensive background in both adolescent and emergency care. The School's athletic trainer is on campus for student-athlete needs, including therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Our athletic trainer is also licensed to provide preventative services and emergency care when necessary. Prep also has a certified mental health counselor who provides individual support and oversees schoolwide student wellness initiatives.
Sandia Prep has one of the safest campuses in the city. Our closed campus is overseen by full-time security personnel who require every visitor to be identified and badged. A recent campus-wide security audit gave Sandia Prep a superior rating.
Along with our Director of Security and full-time security officers, an Albuquerque Police Department liaison visits our campus several times a week and keeps us up to speed on best school safety practices. We work hard to keep our students, faculty, staff, and visitors safe and secure at all times.
