Uyen-Phuong Nguyen '16 - Student (Brown University)

Uyen-Phuong Nguyen '15 is a sophomore at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Known as U.P. to friends, she said she hasn't yet declared a major, but "I'm thinking about Engineering/Computer Science/Applied Math/Economics...I'm interested in way too much!"

When she's not taking classes, U.P. can be found reading the latest New York Times bestseller, attending WiSE (Women in Science and Engineering) meetings or competing for Brown's taekwondo team, which went to Collegiate Nationals at University of Colorado Boulder in May; U.P. made it to the quarterfinals before losing.

The proud Sundevil worked as a teaching assistant at SummerPrep, while taking a few online courses for credit and catching up with friends and teachers. She'll also be a counselor for a girl's leadership camp sponsored by Rotary clubs around NM.

U.P. has said her Prep experience, "shaped me into who I am. I can't imagine a better place to spend my formative years. The relationships I've built here have lasted well past the final bell that rung at the end of the Senior Countdown, and the education that I received has more than prepared me for the midterms and finals that awaited me at Brown. All I had to do was think of Suding or Polansky and I knew that they, among others, have given me all the tools I need to succeed. If I could do well in their classes, I could do well in college."
