The University of New Mexico is partnering with Sandia Prep this fall to bring design-based engineering courses to students.
As part of the National Science Foundation's Engineering for Us All (E4USA), the partnership is aimed at introducing engineering to students who may never have considered that career path. UNM Engineering will provide mentoring and curriculum support.
The E4USA's mission is to expand engineering access for high school students and to encourage them to recognize the role of engineers in society, as well as to reach new populations of students who may be interested in studying engineering in college.
Sandia Prep is one of only two New Mexico high schools to participate in the program. Prep's partner teacher will receive a stipend from UNM as well as funding for classroom materials and supplies.
The E4USA program is expected to reach more than 2,000 students in the 2020-21 academic year.
