Sixth graders in Ms. Helen Haskell's science class are having a friendly competition between the Lions and Unicorns to observe and identify wildlife at home. Using the website or app iNaturalist, students are out and about in their yards, looking and listening for signs of spring and signs of life.
The iNaturalist site allows data to be collected by citizen scientists all over the world. Ms. Haskell's class so far has found almost 90 species of plants, animals and fungus and will continue to explore for the next few weeks. (So far, the Unicorns are in the lead!)
If you'd like to join in, Albuquerque is having a citywide nature challenge April 24-27. Last year, Albuquerque placed in the top five worldwide in seven different categories. You can find more information here.
