Arts

Sandia Prep's Fine Arts program includes classes in the music, drama, and visual arts. We seek to instill in our students an appreciation for their own and others’ creations. All Fine Arts classes include activities to help students acquire and develop technical skills. Students will also become familiar with the vocabulary, techniques, and materials specific to these Fine Arts. Finally, we seek to open our students’ minds to the possibilities for self-expression through music, drama, and visual arts.

Beginning in the 6th grade, Sandia Prep introduces the student to the fundamentals of music literacy and score reading, the essentials of healthy vocal production and the exploration of instrumental music making. The student will gain an appreciation and understanding of a variety of styles and traditions of music. Continuing into Upper School, students further their abilities and knowledge of music through advanced courses. Classes offered through Sandia Prep's Music Department include, Chorus, Guitar, Strings and Jazz Band.

Drama students actively participate in improvisations, theater games, and creative dramatic presentations. Our students also have the opportunity to make their own videos. We work with our students to help them feel comfortable in front of an audience and confident in themselves. Students will gain a strong foundation in every area of theater arts from choosing a script to set/scenery production, and from  acting to costuming, lighting and sound. Drama courses culminate with public performances every semester.
