Sandia Prep's library is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Its staff consists of two full-time professional librarians and a part-time para professional. The library holds a collection of 16,500 books as well as materials in many different media formats (video, audio, CD-ROM, etc.). There are subscriptions to 53 magazines (paper); more than 1,000 newspapers and magazines are available on CD-ROM or online (accessible through the
library's home page).
The library offers a complete computer resource center that enables students to perform word processing (on Microsoft Word), build spreadsheets (with Microsoft Excel) and create presentations (with Microsoft Powerpoint). Numerous other software applications are available.
The computer center also facilitates Internet access for research; through it, students are able to access the card catalogs of the University of New Mexico's Zimmerman Library, the University of New Mexico's Medical School Library and the Albuquerque Public Library. The library's home page offers links to hundreds of carefully selected curriculum-related web sites to help students with their research. Additionally, students have access to several online databases and e-books including NewsBank, The New York Times Historical Newspapers, Gale's Expanded Academic Index and EBSCO – all are subscription services Sandia Prep has purchased.
In an effort to improve the security of school files, FTP services will no longer be offered. The recent development of USB pocket drives has replaced the need for floppy disks, and has made file transfers much easier. Please consider using a pock USB drive to move files between home and school.
